A few years ago I had a student intern from McPherson College for the summer. He was enrolled in the auto restoration technology program. I think he still had one year to go before he was finished. I was truly impressed with his skills. Establishing a career in the auto restoration field in this day and age would be almost impossible without any training. I think it’s great that there is a program like this. It’s also great that it is right here in Kansas.

Students benefit from Leno’s love of classic cars

MCPHERSON, Kan. - Students at a small Kansas college are benefiting from Jay Leno’s love of classic cars.

McPherson College is the only college in the country that offers a degree in automotive restoration.

The college’s president, Ron Hovis, says Leno has been a tireless advocate of the program since he first learned about it several years ago.

Leno has donated money for facilities, tools and scholarships.

“Words can’t say,” said grateful scholarship recipient Bobby Kiersztyn. “I didn’t come from money. It definitely shows up a lot, that I won’t have to pay back student loans for this year.”

Thanks to Leno the program has grown from just 20 students 12 years ago to more than 100 now.
