The work continues on fitting the front sheet metal .

Here the body work is almost completed on the right fender. It’s about ready for primer.

The hood on this car is in excellent shape. It had a few dents and a small rust hole on the front.

The rear edges of the [...]

Pre-Plating Preparations Part 3

Submitted by Auto Restoration 101 Blog

After much work and 320 / 400 grit he wipes the bumper down using wax and grease remover to give it a shine thereby allowing him to visually inspect for any ripples he may want to continue working out. He is fine with the results, so lets continue.

As mentioned [...]

Pre-Plating Preparations Part 2

Submitted by Auto Restoration 101 Blog

A bull nose file reaches those hard to get corners of which are dipped in and unsightly from the factory. The nice thing about bumpers is the gauge of the metal is 4 times that of sheet metal so you have some room to perfect without cutting through. Tap and [...]

My New Tool….TM Technologies Air Hammer Forming Machine

Submitted by Auto Restoration 101 Blog

I bought the plans for this tool several months ago and I am finally about done, with the exception of purchasing the dies. The frame is almost all welded together now, I still have a few areas to finish. I need to final weld the plates for the hammer and [...]

Pre-Plating Preparations Part 1

Quality chrome plating is an expensive part of any restoration or street rod project. Prepping the parts for the nickel and chrome is a lot of hard work, hence the high cost. These are some steps that you can do yourself to help cut down the costs and get a [...]

More from the Pile Up / Happy Birthday To Me!

Submitted by SUEDE & CHROME
Well, the Ol’ dog is a year older today. Hard to believe it, where does the time go? I plan to enjoy the day, so instead of setting at the computer typing away, thought I’d help you enjoy the day by giving you a “double shot” from Hunnert!

Well, Ol’ Scruffy turns [...]

More from Morris, IL. Post #6

Submitted by SUEDE & CHROME

It was kool to see a couple of pedal cars at the show. Most avid Suede and Chrome readers probably know that I have 3 pedal cars. The newest edition is an old Murray that needs restored. Seeing this pedal car gave me some ideas. Scallops are kool!

I think I remember [...]

Hunnert 2009 Post #5

Submitted by SUEDE & CHROME

Sweet cars weren’t the only kool things at the show. Lots of live Rockabilly music throughout the day as well as kool vendors and awesome food.

MAN! I absolutely LOVE these scallops. This is definitely a design that I might consider for the Nifty Fifty! Got some cool scallop ideas that you [...]

Hunnert 2009 Post #4

Here is another set of pictures from the 2009 Hunnert Car Pile Up. I really like this off-white GMC pickup truck!

If you are into Rat Rods and pre 63′ traditional hot rods, then you have GOT to add the Pile Up to your “bucket list”.

Hunnert Car Pile Up 2009 Post #3

Submitted by SUEDE & CHROME

I was pleased at the quality of pictures from my new digital camera when I got home and uploaded them. However, pictures can’t describe how absolutely kool this event was. They also fail to capture the damp, cold air that filled Grundy Fairgrounds.

Here is a picture of my friend Rocky’s Cadillac. [...]

Hunnert 2009 Post #2

Lots of KOOOOOL rat rods and traditional hot rods at the Hunnert Car Pile Up!

As the day progressed, it became harder and harder to get shots like these with few people in the way of the car. I finally decided to stop worrying about getting “people free” shots and just try [...]

Well, I’ve been considering it for a couple of years. The more I read and heard about the Hunnert Car Pile Up, hosted by the Chrome Czars in Morris, IL., the more I thought it sounded like something I would like to attend. This year I finally decided that I would [...]

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Thought I’d give you a treat with a boatload of pictures from the Lucky 7 Cruisers show. I’ll stop typing so you can concentrate on enjoying the pics!

This One’s for the Kiddos…

Submitted by SUEDE & CHROME

Well, I’m doing something I thought I would NEVER do. Posting some pictures of some “tuners” on Suede and Chrome. Well, my reasoning is two fold.

First of all, since the Lucky 7 Cruisers asked me to be the “official” photographer for the show, I’ve got all of these photographs. Secondly, the [...]

I’ve seen this Plymouth Fury convertible before. In fact, I believe it was at the Wilbur Wright Birthplace Show our club hosted back in June. Regardless, it’s a great looking car.

My oldest son was with me at the show. This was his favorite vehicle. If you look WAY back in the [...]
